The Present Progressive (-ing form) means at the moment and otherwise not. This gives the verb a certain sense or feeling of being temporary. Therefore there is a difference between "I live in Connecticut." and "I am living in Connecticut." The first one is a fact - that is where the person lives. The second sentence sounds temporary, so it shows that this person is thinking about moving or is perhaps only in Connecticut for a certain period of time.
