The Simples

The Simples are the most important tenses because they are used 80% of the time.

Learn them ... learn them well!

Uses:

All three of the Simples (Present, Past and Future) are used for facts and repeated actions.

 

Present Simple

Facts:

I work for Impact-e.

I worked in Hamburg for over five years.

I will work on some new texts this weekend.

Repeated Actions:

I work on the web-site every week.

When I lived in Germany I gave seminars every month.

I will work every day next week.

They are given in chronological order, i.e. they happen in the order they are said.

Monday through Friday I get up, dress, have breakfast and start work.

On Saturday I got up, had breakfast, worked for a couple of hours, and then got dressed.

This weekend I will sleep late, visit friends and work in the garden.

Order of events:

1) get up

2) dress

3) have breakfast

4) work

1) got up

2) had breakfast

3) worked

4) got dressed (Yes, I actually worked in my bathrobe for a couple of hours)

1) sleep late

2) visit friends

3) work in the garden
