Lesson Three Reading and Writing

We often use the verb have got to describe things that we own or possess. In business an example of this is your office and everything in it. You can use the verb have got to describe your office or the office of someone you know. Here are some examples:

I work from home. I have got an office on the main floor of our house. My office has got many windows, two desks, and a small sitting area. I have got a lot of books and papers in my office.

Matt Turner has got a good job with a company in Chicago. His office is on the 10th floor of the building. It has got a window, but hasn't got a good view. Matt has got a large desk and a new computer. He has also got a secretary, Kathleen Wilson. Kathleen has got a cubicle near Matt's office. In her cubicle she has got a desk, chair, computer, printer and copy machine. She has got a lot office equipment, but has not got a very big cubicle.

Sally Jansen has got a large corner office on the 30th floor. Her boss, Alicia Peterson, has also got a corner office, but it is on the 35th floor. They have both got nice views of the river from their office windows, but they have got very different offices. Alicia has got her desk near the window. She has got many plants and pictures in her office. Sally has got a lot of books and files in her office. She has got many piles of paper, a computer and one picture on her desk.
