Lesson Four Reading and Writing

In English we use plurals and singulars very often. Here are some examples of job descriptions. There are singular and plural nouns in each example. Pay attention to which nouns are singular and which are plural as you read the examples and write one of your own.

Sharon works in real estate. She is a real estate agent. She shows homes to people and lists new homes for sale. She spends a lot of time with her clients. She looks at many houses with buyers. They make offers on interesting homes and she helps them with all of the paperwork. She helps sellers prepare their homes to be put on the market. Together they decide on a listing price and advertise the home. She often shows the house to interested buyers. She spends a lot of time traveling and on the phone.

Michael is a banker. He works for a local branch of a large bank and takes care of many business customers. He helps them choose the right type of account for their business needs. He makes sure that they understand all of the services that the bank offers and any fees that the bank may charge. He opens new accounts and monitors existing ones. He also contacts companies in the area to acquire new customers.
