We often use the Present Simple when we talk about our daily work. This is because daily work includes many repeated actions and general facts. Pay attention to the use of the Present Simple in the following examples and when you describe your own daily work. When I work in the office I usually start at 8:30 in the morning. I check my emails and "to do" list for the day. In the mornings I often focus on marketing. In the afternoons I create material for our interactive training web-site. I have a lunch break at around 1:00 p.m. When I have a training day my schedule is very different. Carol is a database manager for a large corporation. She commutes to work every morning by subway. She usually arrives at work by 9:00 a.m. Most mornings her team has a short meeting before work begins. Carol spends most of her time at her computer or on the phone. She goes to lunch at 12:30 every day except Thursdays. On Thursdays she has lunch at her desk and goes to an aerobics class in the afternoon. She usually leaves work by 6:30.
